001.jpgFounded in 1847, Taunton School is one of the South West’s leading co-educational independent day and boarding schools for children aged 0 - 18 years.

Our school comprises a caring First Steps Nursery and Pre Preparatory School with fully qualified staff and excellent facilities, an inspiring Preparatory School and an innovative Senior School.

We have a supportive Boarding environment for children aged 7-18 years, offering an extension of family life, with high standard accommodation and excellently equipped common rooms and recreational areas.

Taunton School has achieved consistently excellent GCSE results and some of the most exceptional A-Level results in the South West. Approximately 96% of all Sixth Form leavers take up University or College places. We also offer the International Baccalaureate qualification to complement our excellent and well proven A and AS Level programme, an effective pathway to university and the world beyond.

Although the emphasis is on academic study, at Taunton we also ensure that our students do not lose sight of their other opportunities and social interests. The School has an outstanding reputation in games and especially in debating, public speaking, music and drama helping to produce well-rounded students with that spark of originality and individuality which will set them apart.

We believe that a school education should be life changing, not merely a daily ritual to be endured, and that it is our job to equip our pupils with the values and experiences for a future anywhere in the world.

A website can only offer a flavour. Please come and visit us and meet the pupils and staff who make this a special place.

Our History

The School was founded in 1847. Due to its non-conformist foundation, the School has always been able to boast an inclusive, broad-minded and welcoming character.

It moved to its present site in 1870. The original house, Fairwater, dating from the 18th century, is now a boys' boarding house.

As one of the first independent schools to have accepted both boys and girls (in 1973) we can lay claim to being genuinely co-educational. Approximately 50% of our pupils are girls.

The School has five parts to it:
•    The Senior School (13 - 18 years) which has 600 pupils of whom 240 are in the Sixth Form.
•    The Preparatory School (7 - 13 years) with 270 pupils.
•    The Pre-Prep and Nursery with about 140 children (0 - 7 years).
•    Taunton School International Middle School, established in 2012, this school takes second language pupils of ages up to 13 and prepares them for entry to the Prep and Senior Schools
•    Taunton School International with 80 students on a one year GCSE programme

All parts of the School share a common purpose as well as the school facilities. Thus we are able to offer a properly co-ordinated education.
